A Lucky Find

I was visiting the Popular Warehouse Sales at Summit Subang USJ on Sunday, leisurely browsing through the collection of books on sale. While at the English book section, I found this book under the 80%-90% discount tables.

It was the photo of the puppy that first caught my eyes. Then I noticed that the dog's name was Lava. It was one of the many dogs rescued from Iraq, showcased on an Animal Planet program. A unit of US Marines found the pup and named it Lava after the battalion's nickname Lava Dogs. The soldiers kept the pup with them even though the military strictly forbids keeping pets while on missions.

Lava, as well as other dogs or cats kept by other US troops in Iraq, helped the soldiers to deal with the emotional stress related to being on the battlefields. The animals, including Lava, were later smuggled back to the US by a non-profit organization.

I'm a sucker for stories like this, and when I found the only copy there at the sale, I took it without second thoughts. There's no need for me to hesitate, especially when the book only cost me RM 3.88. I'm going to read this real soon.
