On the morning of 5 November 2012, I was driving along Jalan Baiduri SS1/22 heading to Taman Paramount LRT station to catch a train to work. I noticed a motor bike riding very closely behind my car. Its headlight was off. I can see that the rider was a middle-aged Indian with bushy beard. I had a suspicious feeling about this guy.
Long before reaching Jalan SS1/26 to my right, I turned on my right signal light and was moving closer to the right side of my lane. Instead of overtaking me on the left side, which was spacious enough for a large truck to pass, the biker kept moving to the right side as well.
I knew something was wrong. Very gently, I slowed to a complete stop when reaching the junction, my car parallel to the road and didn't take the turn even though there was no oncoming vehicle. I expected the motor bike to overtake from the right side, and it did. If I were to take the turn before he passed, he would surely crashed onto my car.
Why on earth would the rider followed so close behind my car, with the headlight off, overtook my car from the right instead of the left while fully aware that I was going to turn right? If I had to hazard a guess, I think he planned to fake an accident. I think that he was trying to wait for me to stop abruptly or to turn somewhere and then crashed into my car. Of course, he'll falsely accuse me for the "accident". With no one around in that early morning, it would be my words against his. He'll demand for compensation for his injury and/or his damaged bike. He'll probably threatened me to go to the police to file a report to scare me into submission.
Fortunately, I avoided that potential scam. It would've been a horrible way to start my day.
