That seems to the question I asked myself after reading this book. How far would I go to rescue a dog if I was in the author's position?
This book was about how
Lieutenant Colonel Jay Kopelman and other individuals in Baghdad and
the US helped in rescuing a stray puppy from certain death. The pup,
named Lava, was found a Marine troop in Baghdad and many of the
soldiers became very fond of the dog, especially Kopelman. However,
because of General Order 1-A that prohibits soldiers from keeping
pets or mascots, once found, the animals would be killed. Kopelman
and a number of his fellow soldiers tried to hide Lava from being
discovered. Kopelman was well aware that the only way for his beloved
Lava to live was to transport the dog out of Baghdad. Unless Lava leaves for
the US, the only other options were to be killed or leave him out on
the streets of Baghdad, which to Kopelman were not options at all.
Therefore Kopelmen made it his personal mission to rescue Lava.
The story was simple and
straight-forward enough, but still filled with suspense and
heart-warming moments. Anyone who loves dogs or pets would
love this book. The only complaint I have for this book was too few
photos. Any book about animals should have more photos, preferably color photos.
