Swear fest!!
After reading the first few pages, first thing came to my mind was, "You kiss your mom with that mouth?!"
I've heard my fair share of swearing during my high school days, and this book reminded me of those days. I guess there weren't much difference between the 1990's and in 1949.
Narrated by the book's protagonist, Holden Caulfield, it's a story in a two-day period after he was expelled from his school. The book showed a lot of angst, rebellion and confusion by Holden. He believed that many people around him are pretentious, acting and behaving in ways that were untrue, without realising that the same held true to himself, acting beyond his age and lied when he felt like it, smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol, trying to pass himself as an adult by showing his several strands of grey hair. He also appeared to not able to stick to the decisions he made, changing his mind many times.
I wonder how many teenagers of the past and present can relate themselves to Holden?
Can't say I can relate myself to him. Back in high school, I don't drink, I don't smoke, I looked much younger than my actual age (still true for all three presently), and I was as boring as a high-schooler can be, still being friendly to classmates and friends while keeping things to myself most of the time (still partly true too).
