He won!!

Great news!! Tan Twan Eng won the Walter Scott prize for historical fiction with his second book "The Garden of Evening Mists"!! Hoorah!!!

Tan receiving his prize

I was eagerly waiting for the news on Saturday during which the event was held at the Brewin Dolphin Borders Book Festival in Melrose in the Scottish Borders. I was rooting for him not only because he's a Malaysian and I loved his books, but also because one of his competitors was Hilary Mantel with "Bring Up The Bodies". I had nothing against her, in fact I bought both her books with plans of reading them soon (hopefully). It's just that seeing her won the Man Booker Prize twice, the second one in which "The Garden of Evening Mists" was among the shortlisted titles, I was hoping that for once Tan would win against this great author. And he did!

Now that this prize was covered, I'm looking forward for Tan to win in the Popular-The Star Readers' Choice Award 2013 right here in Malaysia.
