Review: "Divine Justice"

I've never tried listening to audio books before. Figured it's worth a try when I found this selling for RM 5 at the Aftermath Sale and it's written by David Baldacci.

Review: "To Kill a Mockingbird"

“The unforgettable novel of a childhood in a sleepy Southern town and the crisis of conscience that rocked it, To Kill a Mockingbird became both an instant bestseller and critical success when it was first published in 1960… Compassionate, dramatic, and deeply moving, To Kill a Mockingbird takes readers to the roots of human behavior…”

I’ve always wanted to read this book when I first heard of it. And when I finally started and finished reading it, I loved it. While it was published it 1960, the story and lessons were applicable even in today’s society.

The book was written from the perspective of Jean Louise Finch or Scout as she was called, in a fictional town of Maycomb, Alabama. There are two parts in the book. Part One focused mostly on her life with her older brother Jem and their father, Atticus, and her neighbors in town, and the mysteries of the Radley Place and Boo Radley. Part Two involved around some serious topics such as an alleged rape case, racism and near deaths of family members.

While the book is a bit slow-paced, revolving around the childhood story of a girl, it was never boring. I wanted to continue to read and took my time doing so; unlike other less interesting books which I would speed-read through it just to finish them.

Everyone must read this. Everyone can still relate themselves or anything around them to the story. A five-star book!!

Just one book

BookFest@Malaysia 2011 ended yesterday. As planned, I didn't buy any English book. I got only one Chinese book that I planned on buying since last year.

That's where it will be

Big Bad Wolf has been holding this "Finding Area 51" contest where clues are given for us to guess where the book sale will be held and preview passes will be given out to 30 lucky winners. The latest clue, which is the picture below, is a dead giveaway.

There are still two clues left to be revealed today and tomorrow. I'm guessing there are clues for a more precise location, such as which building will the sale be.

Review: "Angela's Ashes"

My latest favorite! I’m no book critic and I can’t exactly describe how well this book was written, but I can tell you that I enjoyed reading “Angela’s Ashes”.

Giving seats on LRT

I was on my way back from work yesterday. As I was travelling by myself, I took the opportunity to catch up on my reading on the way home. While there were available seats, I decided to stand instead. I sat enough for one day.

Favorite photos of Gigi

I was searching through my PC for Gigi's photos the other day. Regretfully, I realized I took so few photos of her. Don't know if it was because I don't own a digital camera at the time or because  I took things for granted.

Anyway, I was looking for one particular photo, the one that I like the most.

New pet Apple + old pet Gigi

Apple is getting braver now, spending more time in the living room and actually refused to return to the cage sometimes. While she seems to be ok with people petting her, she still a bit shy in letting someone holding her.

I Won!!

I took part in BookXcess' latest Blog Bonanza contest and won myself a Lillian Too's Feng Shui Kit.

I was just trying it for fun, not expecting to win (which happened quite a lot). Guess I got lucky this time.

I'll collect it this weekend and hopefully can use it to improve my fortune! Lol :)

iPhone for RM800

I was at the Amcorp Mall flea market last Sunday, just to hang out. I noticed one stall has a hand-written sign says iPhone 3G for RM800 - negotiable, original price RM2,100. Curious, I decided to take a look.

Sweet rides...

I was at Medan Maju Jaya to have my car's shock absorbers replaced last Saturday. It was in the afternoon while I was at the garage waiting when I heard the sounds of heavy bikes. I went outside to check it out and surely enough I saw two large bikes, but they weren't Harleys. These were way cooler!!! These were custom choppers!!!

Review: The Prisoner of Tehran

Welcome to 2011!!

It's 2011 and it's time to start many things anew!! The first new thing I wanted for my blog is a new look! Since arts and design were never one of my talents (not that I have many), I decided on something simple like choosing one of the ready-made templates and make some minor changes later.

I entered the Blogger Template Designer and ..... nothing. It just hung there and nothing happened. It doesn't seemed like Blogger was having some system failure since I can still post this article. It was showing nothing.

This is not a good sign. Does this mean I'm going to have a bad year?!! Nooooooo.....

Haha, just kidding! It's no big deal, I'll just make the change some other time. :P

What the plan for the new year then? Maintaining a good physical and mental health, of course! Without these two, no plan can be completed properly. Don't you agree?

What else? Read faster and buy slower, haha... I've been buying so fast and reading so slow that I still got around 40 books left unread!!! And I bought three new books just yesterday!! (o.O") I really need to get a hold of myself...

So one of my new year plan is to finish these books within the year. Which means I need to finish at least one book per week throughout the year, not including any new books I'll buy. This is going to be a major project...

Other new year plans? Hmm...
  • Save more money. More like a lifetime plan, haha...
  • Make my Kelisa look and feel new. I had my car for over 5 years & it deserves a good treatment. The shock absorbers definitely need to be changed. A new coat of paint sounds good too.
  • Perform better at work. I noticed my performance has dropped somewhat lately. Definitely need to pick it up.
  • Get a girlfriend. Haha... I'll let fate decide on this.
  • Continue to expand my book collection. I've been reading quite a lot of non-fiction (self-help, memoirs, true stories, etc) and a bit of fiction. I've been thinking of adding literature into the mix. Currently reading The Gift of Rain by Tan Twan Eng.
That's what I had in mind so far. More plans will no doubt be added throughout the year. We'll see how things go.

Wishing everyone a Happy 2011!!
