Review: “Bad Luck and Trouble”

Bad Luck and Trouble is the 11th book in Lee Child’s Jack Reacher series. I got this for free from my colleague after she had finished it.

The book follows protagonist Jack Reacher, being as untraceable as a human being in America, was contacted by a member of his old Army unit requesting urgent help. True enough, one of them was found dead in the California desert, six others were missing and Reacher himself was being hunted as well.

The old unit has a slogan: “You Don’t Mess With The Special Investigators”. And Reacher was determined that whoever was responsible will pay for messing with his team.

Bad Luck and Trouble is not heavily action-oriented. Most of the story focused on the main characters investigating the deaths and disappearances of Reacher’s old team members. Perhaps one needs to read the first 10 books in order to appreciate the storyline and character developments in Bad Luck and Trouble. But by itself, the book showed how close-knit the team was and takes their team slogan quite personally and literally, even after the team disbanded for years and they would to any length for their team members. The lack of action-packed storyline did not undermine the suspense behind the race for justice and revenge.
